We have put together a self-quarantine checklist for you. Follow these steps to ensure you don’t miss anything important:

• You MUST present your self-quarantine plan to border officials upon arrival.

• You are responsible for covering the cost of everything needed during quarantine (including accommodations, food and hygiene products) 

• You cannot leave your self-quarantine locationuntil the 14 days are over (this includes not going to classes or going to get food).

• Download ArriveCAN mobile app and complete the quarantine questionnaire.

• Ensure you can provide a working phone number where you can be reached in Canada to the Canada Immigration Officer upon arrival. It is recommended to purchase an international calling card for Canada prior to departure.

• Book reliable airport transportation from Toronto Pearson International Airport.

• Write down your quarantine plan (see above) and make sure you have it with you upon arrival to the Canadian airport.

• Read Public Health Ontario’s instructions on how to self-isolate. 

• Let us know you’re coming by filling out our information on our Contact us page. Once you arrive in Canada, you must complete the mandatory student arrival form.

• International students should make arrangements to purchase comprehensive private health insurance that includes COVID-19 coverage, before departure.

What you need to know before leaving your country

Any international student with COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed to board their flight to Canada. If symptoms occur upon arrival, a health assessment will be performed by a PHAC Officer and the individual may not be allowed to enter Canada, or if necessary, the individual may be transported to a hospital for a medical examination. Among other requirements to be granted entry to Canada, an international student will be required to demonstrate to a Border Services Officer, or PHAC Officer, that they have a suitable plan for quarantine in place; otherwise, they may be refused entry. Any international student who is found to be in violation of the mandatory 14-day quarantine period may be penalized under Canadian law.

Currently, international students may enter Canada for the purposes of pursuing a program of post-secondary study, for which they have secured a study permit or approval, subject to conditions set out in the Quarantine Act, and Emergency Orders made under the Quarantine Act.

All travellers entering Canada, including international students, are required to undergo the necessary health checks, must wear a non-medical mask or face covering during travel, including to their place of quarantine, and they must quarantine (if asymptomatic) or isolate (if symptomatic) for 14 days upon arrival in Canada, in accordance with the requirements set out in the Emergency Order Minimizing the Risk of Exposure to COVID-19 in Canada Order (Mandatory Isolation).

Upon arrival, international students must be able to demonstrate that they have a plan in place to support their initial 14-day mandatory quarantine or isolation period in Canada.Failure to comply with this Order is an offense under the Quarantine Act. Maximum penalties include a fine of up to $750,000 and/or imprisonment for six months. Further, a person who causes a risk of imminent death or serious bodily harm to another person while willfully or recklessly contravening this Act or the regulations could be liable for a fine of up to $1,000,000 or to imprisonment of up to three years, or to both. Spot checks will be conducted by the Government of Canada to verify compliance. In addition to the offenses under the Quarantine Act, international students and their dependents, as Temporary Residents or Foreign Nationals authorized entry, may face consequences under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, such as being deemed inadmissible and subject to a removal order, for any non-compliance with quarantine requirements under the Quarantine Act.

International students must be reminded that a student permit alone is not a travel authorization. IRCC will communicate to international students once travel authorization has been granted and remind them that this authorization may be cancelled if the circumstances in their destined institution or province change.

International students should enter Canada with a plan for quarantining for at least 14 days in advance of their first day of their program of study in order to be in compliance with the existing Emergency Order under the Quarantine Act, requiring mandatory quarantine upon arrival.  

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure there are appropriate arrangements in place for their quarantine, which includes physical distancing from others, and avoiding contact with vulnerable people such as people 65 years or older, or people with underlying medical conditions. Public living areas should be avoided. As such, hostels and residences with shared living accommodations are not acceptable for quarantine or isolation.

In addition, during their stay in Canada, international students must continue to comply with the federal, provincial and territorial laws and regulations, as well as the guidelines established by local authorities and their respective institutions.

We look forward to hosting international students at MLC College, but also feel responsible towards the community at large, hence we request students to strictly follow these guidelines and adhere to the updated policies issued by IRCC.

Protocol for the Prevention of COVID-19

1. All persons on MLC  College property must make every effort possible to maintain a minimum 2-metre distance from others at all times.

2.All forms of physical contact, including handshakes, are prohibited. Where labs must include physical contact for completion (e.g., massage therapy), faculty and support staff are responsible to ensure all additional precautionary measures required by the governing regulatory bodies shall be taken to prevent transmission of disease.

3.There shall be no loitering at the college before or after required on -campus activities.

4.Students shall wait to enter labs or classrooms by following signs and/or markers, 2 metres apart.  If the lab or classroom is empty and the door is open, students may enter directly and move to an empty workstation.

5.Food and drinks shall not be consumed in classrooms, labs only in common areas.

6.When moving through the college, obey signages, 2 meter distance and necessary instructions in halls and stairwells.

7. No persons shall attend the college if they’re sick. Anyone who feels ill, or shows symptoms of illness while at the college, shall leave immediately and notify their instructor or manager when it’s safe to do. Persons who believe they may have been in contact with someone infected with COVID-19 must not attend the college without first seeking the direction of their local health unit.
